Each scale is usually tuned in 440 hz, if required it is also possible in 432 hz or other.

Instrument invented on the basis of the handpan, the Kunda was born from the idea of deepening the phenomenon of “resonance for sympathy”. Ivo choosed to introduce the use of guitar strings and, after a couple of years of research, he presented the first official prototype in Turin in July 2016. Through a special processing of the lower shell, which has holes, bridges and metal pins, the strings internally cross the instrument leaving the playable area exposed. (OVERLOADING THE GU) The Kunda is designed to change the size and characteristics of the Vision handpan as little as possible. It can be placed in the classic case and the sound of the upper shell doesn’t change. The Kunda in the original version is provided with 9 notes + 9 strings. The strings, carefully chosen with the right diameter, correspond in quantity to the notes of the upper shell and are tuned with equal hz to them. By playing the strings with the fingers or the plectrum, they will vibrate and, as it happens with the harmonics, they will activate the corresponding handpan notes, which will resonate without being touched. Playing the tailpiece looks like pinching the guitar strings or harp play.
This new peculiarity makes the Kunda even more resonant and harmonious and allows a greater sustain than that of a classic Vision handpan. Another version is provided with double-tailpiece and 16 crossed ropes at the GU. The 9 central strings correspond to the notes of the upper shell, as in the original version, the others strings give the possibility to play the same notes with a higher or lower octave. (As long as there is vibration of the string there is resonance of the note.)
How to play
The possibilities of playing are multiple: - it can be played like an handpan, - it can be played by pinching the strings, - both sides of the instrument can be played by positioning the Kunda into a vertical position on the legs or by means of a stand, or standing supported by a shoulder strap, which can be fixed to the appropriate pins on the edge. It is designed in such a way that the ropes can be mounted in ascending and descending order, allowing the instrument to be adapted for right-handed or left-handed users. If a string breaks or you choose to replace one or more strings: easy and fast procedure, designed to be within everyone’s reach, so that every owner can replace himself the strings of his Kunda. How to replace strings - To position the appropriate key for tuning (date supplied with the instrument at the time of purchase) on the metal pin that corresponds to the string you want to tune, - now turn the key (if I have mounted it in a clockwise direction ..) to carry out the screwing of the rope from the pin. Now the rope will have lost its tension. - At this point (after each winding) a small rotation will be enough to align the hole of the metal pin (containing the rope / where the string is inserted) with the direction of the strings; – in this way it will be possible to remove the rope from the pin hole. the rope turns out to be completely (soft) free on one side, - it can now be completely extracted by pulling the rope from the (his) hole near the edge of the instrument. - In the same way the new rope (from the hole) is reinserted, - made to pass inside and positioned on the appropriate bridges and then - passed through the hole of the corresponding metal pin - Leaving (leftover rope springs), allows to perform some windings before using the key, this will allow a better distribution of the load on the rope and a greater stability in the tuning of the same. - use the key to stretch the string, better with tuner during, otherwise by striking with the fingers the notes on the side of the handpan you try to recognize with the sound which note you want to get on the string trying to reach that sound, easily recognizable and tunable thanks to the phenomenon of “resonance for sympathy”, which in fact causes the correct pitch to be reached, the vibration of the string will activate (when equal reached hz) the corresponding known handpan. If you replace a single rope the others will get in the way and it will not be easy to introduce the hand and get to grip the rope … easy solution to this problem brought by using a hair crochet, with which it will be easy to “fish” the rope springs inside the instrument passing the tool between the strings stretched where the string in question will have to be placed next.
